Emergency Response Program

Hayat Foundation always responded very quickly during any kind of emergencies in Pakistan, through its emergency response programs to facilitate the needy peoples as well as to protect their basic rights, whatever their religion, race, gender, color is. Our, working strategy and key expertise during emergencies are as under:
- To facilitate IDPs in registration process; provide education and child protection services, to establish child friendly centers in camps, to facilitate the vulnerable children & women as well as their families in consequences of emergencies.
- To provide water, environment and sanitation (WES) services.
- Link survivors during emergencies with different services, i.e to facilitate for getting CNIC, registering of children with NADRA, birth registration certificates, health services and legal assistance.
- Distribution of food and non food items through field offices & camps.
- Monitoring of return process of IDPs, by conducting pre & post interviews as well as assurance of their rights during return process.
- Identification of protection issues and reporting to relevant agency for the protection of IDP’s rights.
- To conduct “Child Protection and WES Need” assessments.
- Contribute in rehabilitation services and process, through community development initiatives, with a focus on women empowerments.
Child Protection

The Human Right wing of Hayat Foundation has gained a comprehensive experience in this field. We have conducted so many child protection projected, in collaboration with UNICEF, at different district of Sindh, Punjab, KPK and FATA. Usually, we perform as under:
- We protect the children from abuse, neglect, exploitation and discrimination through different project.
- We address the issues of birth registration, child abuses, educational facilities, through different projects.
- Provide the child protection services in emergencies (flood, earth quake etc).
- Address the child protection issues by establishing child protection services centers and by providing necessary protection services.
- We establish the referral mechanism of identified child protection issues, through active involvement of community, decision makers and Government departments.
- Provide the free legal aid/assistance to women and children who identity as victim of violence and abuse.
- Networking of NGOs/CBOs in the area, to work as pressure groups on Child Rights and Protection issues.
- Eliminate bounded labor through non-formal education, skill enhancement, awareness raising and development of micro-enterprises as substitute to bonded labor.
Education

Hayat Foundation believes that the three necessary component of the development of our Pakistan are Education, Education and Education. Hayat Foundation is working in education sector, formal and non-formal education, through its short term as well as long term programs, in district Faisalabad and other areas. We have established 12 NFECs (Non-Formal Education Centers) at brick kilns, in the surrounding of Faisalabad and 04 ECCS within city. Our working style in education sector is as under:
- Provide the non-formal education to working children of brick kilns, commercial sexual exploited children through establishment of NFE/Literacy Centers.
- Endow with vocational and technical education to vulnerable and destitute women of brick kilns and commercial sexual exploited industry.
- Conduct the capacity building trainings for schools teachers on School Management and Information System, Teaching Methodology, Financial Management, Record Keeping, Resource Mobilization etc.
- Arrange the trainings for “Parent Teacher Councils” of Government Schools, regarding their roles and responsibilities, financial management, resource mobilization and community development.
- Arrange the awareness and advocacy campaigns for the purposes to increase the enrolment in Government Schools.
- Perform different educational activities in school and at community level to convey the message that education is most important factor for development of any nation.
- Arrange the walk, seminars, talk shows with parliamentarians, puppet shows, street theaters, festival and special campaign for the promotion of education.
- Established Temporary Learning Centers in flood affected areas.
- Established the youth groups and conducted the capacity building training for of teachers and youth groups.
- Reactivated the School Council(SC)/Taleemi Islhahi Jirga(TIJ) in targeted areas/districts.
- Different events of advocacy and consultation meetings with stakeholders (Parliamentarians, Media, DoE, Literacy Department, Social Welfare Department and community) have been organized, Punjab, Sindh, KPK and FATA.
- Conducted enrollment campaign through walks, seminar, public meetings, involving SC or TIJs, radio messages, messages though newspapers and door to door visit of youth groups.
- Organized the Co-Curricular Activities for children in Punjab, KPK and FATA.
Health

Hayat Foundation believes on the golden rule of “Health is wealth”. We have always highlighted the health issue in our meetings/sessions that what appropriate measures are necessary for the betterment of health facilities in Pakistan. The detail is as following:
- Conducted the awareness raising program on Health and Hygiene in schools, factories, Madrissas, CPCs, NFECs, ECCs etc.
- We established the “Children Health Club” in the 600 schools of Punjab.
- Orientation and awareness raising services on reproductive health, HIV Aids and other sexual transmitted diseases to Madras’s students.
- First aid training to students and out of school children in 160 schools/20 UCs of Faisalabad, 600 schools of Rahim Yar Khan, Muzaffarghar and Rajinpur.
- Awareness regarding sterilize the tools and transfer of blood without disease, to LHVs and awareness raising activities on HIV Aids/Hepatitis through conduction of sessions in educational institutes, in textile units with workers.
- Health and hygiene training to teachers and Care givers in Rajanpur, to facilitate the children of 160 schools.
- Conducted more than 1100 community meeting on health and hygiene through our official (CMs,CPMs,CPFs,SOs,CMOs) and facilitated more than 25000 peoples in target district of Punjab, Sindh, KPK and FATA.
- Conducted the polio campaign in different areas.
- Provision of health services to mothers & children through the network of MCH centers (Mother & Child Health Centers) in most neglected areas of Faisalabad.
- Providing the physical treatment at these centers.
- Established free medical camps in Rajinpur, Muzaffarghar and Rahimyar Khan (Punjab), , Mansehra, Swat (KPK) and Umerkot , Meerpur (Sindh) during earth quake/rain/flood emergencies.
Water, Environment and Sanitation

Hayat Foundation has worked on different long term programs related to WASH/WES in Punjab, KPK and FATA. We have also implemented different short term projects and few of our achievements are as under:
- Conduct assessment of needs in emergencies and regular intervention areas.
- Awareness raising and capacity building of communities on adopting healthy practices.
- Developed the school and community based sanitation plans and facilitated them through different projects.
- Facilitated the communities in getting clean drinking water through awareness raising and development of drinking water schemes.
- Launch water testing schemes in targeted areas/district.
- Built the capacities of children, teachers, School Councils and CBOs on promoting health and hygiene practices through adopting behavior change communication strategies.
- Worked on solid waste management interventions.
- Installed about 12 Submersible Pumps, 299 Hand Pumps and 166 water bladders, in schools and community, in the different districts of Punjab.
- Installed about 1500 VIP pit toilets, triple cabin toilets and about 775 hand washing points in the different districts of Punjab.(Mianwali,Muzafargarh).
- Capacity of 6000 Teachers, school council members, and school monitors (AEOs/ MEAs) enhanced on around water source protection, mitigation, school environment and basic health & hygiene practices.
- 154,000 children organized under children clubs and sensitized around basic health & hygiene practices washing hands, using and protecting safe drinking water in target districts.
- School environment improvement plans developed and implemented in 1200 schools of Punjab.
- Delivered Hygiene session in Community & camps, more than 3584 session with 100352 direct beneficiaries.
- Hygiene Promotion activities through wall chalking & BCC material in targeted areas.
- Distribution of 20000 Hygiene & family kit to flood affected communities.
Research and Development

Hayat Foundation believes that the research builds knowledge about the relationship between the individual and society, and about how to manage this relationship. It thus develops both the knowledge and capacity for effective problem management. Research and development described us how we have to tackle the different kind of situations, with minimum resources, makes us to investigate the emergence of problems and how to best manage these. It is therefore we:
- Carried out a number of operational research, assessments and evaluations in the fields of education, child protection, and water and sanitation.
- Have contributed in a number of studies and baselines related to women and child and Adolescents health issues.
- Conducted Child Protection joint assessment in conflict affected district SWAT, Buner & Lower Dir of KPK.
- Mapping study of marginalized out of school children, in different districts of Punjab.
- Impact Assessment of child abuse prevention project in Faisalabad (life skill based education ECC and Maddrassah).
